… or installing OS X Leopard on a Fujitsu Lifebook T2010.

T2010OSXFirst, I read a lot on the Insanely Mac Forum and OSx86 Project Wiki. Feeling confident, I set sail for tpb, where I plundered the latest versions of the iATKOS and Kalyway seeds. I think I ended up using the iATKOS release, but it was pretty much a vanilla install, meaning OS X already supported the Intel 965 chipset. After a considerable wait at a blue screen, and possibly some tinkering, I was able to get booted. Then I set the device ids for the ethernet controller in the .kext.

At this point I was able to use the software update to install MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.2 and LeopardGraphicsUpdate, particularly for the X3100, which now works with 3d acceleration. There was a problem with the native screen resolution of 1280×800, so I had to install a program called SwitchResX before rebooting to create a display profile, which solved the garbled screen issue. Installing TabletMagic got the wacom working, and Apple even has their own handwriting recognition software called Ink. Now the boot times are fast, and everything works for the most part.

tablet worksWhat doesn’t work yet unfortunately, are the airport drivers for the 4965agn (but they’re in development) and the power management functionality, as in sleep mode, but I haven’t really researched that yet, because I think without wireless, I’m better off switching to debian, or most likely sticking with vista. Curse you m$ and your not giving me an overwhelming reason to curse you.

As an anecdote, the default screensaver for OS X seriously freaks out my cat. She looked up and literally flew backwards out of her seat. She can’t stop staring at the psychedelic octopus.

  1. Nice work. Have you played with the real mac airbooks or whatever they are called? Pretty cool stuff…

  2. did you ever get more stuff working? this is the only example of a t2010 i have seen running osx…. i got it running on my desktop machine and was considering getting a t2010 if it supported osx fairly well to replace my aging macbook.

i noticed that there is a version of the 2010 with an atheros chipset, which i am thinking is natively supported for wireless… i’m assuming you had the intel pro chipset

  3. nope, thats about as far as i got before i installed eventually ubuntu. it looks like there are still no wireless drivers. ya, i have the intel chipset, but if the atheros one is supported then it should be viable. everything else seemed to work correctly. ubuntu is more fun imo, with its wifi sniffing and free app library. go gnu.

  4. yeah i ran it (unbuntu) on my HP a while ago for that very purpose (wireless scanning) its nice but unfortunately i depend on adobe apps for a living, so until those are ported, osx is the only *nix i can use… :(

im still debating the t2010… another question if you dont mind, is the ram/HD user accessible? SSD prices keep falling so that seems like a temping option.

  5. ya, there are panels on the bottom that can be removed, i’ve upgraded the ram already, looking at a ssd replacement eventually as well. it is a pretty nice tablet/laptop.. but it still leaves me wanting the next generation of wacom screens with less glass between my pen and the image.
