23 May 2008 - 22:54The Small is Beautiful - The Mixtape [2008]

Single ImageJamie Thompson has released his first mashup album, with a second volume in production. He’s best known as the drummer from The Unicorns and Islands, but he was always overshadowed in those bands, so I’m glad he’s making his own name now. I was just a little sad to see no Subtitle remixes on this volume, still I can’t wait to hear more.

Dead Prez - (Bigger Than) Hip-Hop (The Small is Beautiful mashup)
Ludacris - Stand Up (The Small is Beautiful mashup)
Bone Crusher - Never Scared (The Small is Beautiful mashup)
3 Six Mafia - Stay High (The Small is Beautiful mashup)

22 May 2008 - 17:54Doug Stanhope `08

One of my favorite comedians at the moment is Doug Stanhope. It could be described as cynical or dark humor. It’s political, not unlike The Daily Show or George Carlin, but possibly more disgusting. It is certainly not something for people who cannot take a joke or are easily offended, so don’t say I made you watch it.

20 May 2008 - 17:47Peep Show

The fifth season is halfway over. My favorite part of the season so far has been a comment Jeremy made after buying a forty-five quid bottle of wine: “That is fantastic… obviously not really delicious like hot chocolate or Coke, but for wine, brilliant.” I noticed a lot of the episodes are online, so why not start again from the beginning..

20 May 2008 - 17:35The Scene - 8-bit Hacks [2008]

Before it gets too stale, I should probably mention the remix album. I finished it about a month ago and it’s been downloaded been downloaded 236 times so far. It took about three weeks to make and essentially consisted of taking music hacking groups’ key generators and combining it with hip hop acapellas. It was a lot of fun to make, and there are some unfinished tracks that might add up to an ep, but three weeks was enough to burn out for now. In the future might consider shelving a project for a period after its completion, to re-inspire my promotional efforts, rather than just casually puking it onto the net. Anyway, here are the wares:

18 May 2008 - 22:04Electro-Biology

Who knew old dead electronics had so many salvageable components. I took apart a couple dead dvd drives and recovered three little electric motors, two lasers, one green led, in addition to the gears, screws and a reusable metal enclosure. As a reminder to myself, I should try and make it down to the goodwill to look for cheap reusable electronics.

I also got around to resurrecting the garden. Last year’s harvest was inedible, but it’s just fun going out to water it, gives me a reason to be in the yard. And look, this blog is getting me to use my camera.

One of my hopes for this blog is that it will get me to use my camera more often. To get it started, I’ll post some of the better pictures I’ve taken while out walking around.

17 May 2008 - 17:14Radiolab: (So-Called) Life - Show #404

Friday, March 14, 2008

What are the consequences when humans start playing with life? The human imagination has always dreamed up fantastic creatures, but now biotechnology is making it easier and easier for us to actually create forms of life that have never existed before. In this hour, Radio Lab looks at the uneasy marriage between biology and engineering, and asks what counts as “natural?”
